PROCESS
"My paintings are inspired by the complex patterns in Nature, such as branches, vines, and root systems. I also have an interest in the looping links of calligraphy and the hand-written word. It's the intersection of these types of intricate marks that direct my creative process.
"Color plays a vital role in my artistic choices. I select colors based on the mood I want each piece to provide to the viewer. Reds, oranges and yellows bring cheer, vivacity, and spark. Earth tones in golds and browns offer a centered, introspective sensibility. Cool greens, blues and purples suggest peace and tranquility.
"To make my work, I draw gestural marks onto white paper or sheer fabric, using fluid acrylic paint applied with a squeeze bottle. Then I roll over the wet surface with a brayer to flatten and extend the marks. When the painted layers are dry, I cut the fabric into circles or tear the paper into strips, then collage them onto stretched canvas. A final coating of heavy acrylic gel seals the elements and provides a protective coating to the surface."
